White Water Rafting
The river Dranse flows through Morzine and down the valley eventually ending up in Lake Leman (Lake Geneva). From several spots along the river companies offer white water rafting, hydrospeeding and canoe rafting. Packages vary from single descents to weekend courses.
Canyoning involves descending down a river or gorge using a variety of techniques including abseiling, rock jumping, swimming and hiking. There are several routes in and around Morzine, the best known starts by abseiling through the bridge that you ski across by the Fys chairlift in the winter!
Being flown by an instructor, you take off from one of the peaks around Morzine. Hanging from a parachute style ‘wing’ your flight will take in the sights and views from a new angle. Why not hire a head cam as well to capture the view. Or why not try a 4-5 day course.
Via Ferrata was invented by Italian troops during the war to allow movement of supplies through difficult mountain terrain. It has now evolved into a fully-fledged sport. It involves using a series of fixed ladders, wires and bridges while harnessed to a series of safety cables to complete a route through the mountains.
From Chatel, fly across the hamlet of Plaine-Dranse on two cables each over 2km long, at speeds of up to 100kmph.
