It’s been another fantastic summer here in Morzine!
With blue skies and +30°c weather, BBQ’s and kayaking, hiking and biking, we wouldn’t spend our summers anywhere else!
And as if all that outdoorsy-goodness wasn’t enough, there were way more events and festivals going on this year than ever before! Whether it was Crankworx style MTB events, Kids or Food Weeks, or Dance Festivals, it’s been a summer full of activities and happy smiley people!
So, as the seasons slowly begin to change, we thought this would be an ideal time to round-up our favourite moments from this summer before we go all silly with #winteriscoming fever!
First up… The Reebok Spartan Race visited Morzine for the first time this summer, really kicking off the season in style! Teams and individuals from all over the area descended on Morzine to take on the giant assault courses set up around town. The 20km Beast event was an insane display of endurance and determination. And it was great to watch kids running around Morzine the last day taking on rope nets and monkey bars with huge smiles on their faces. Great family fun. And they’ve already booked to come back next year!
Chris taking part in L’Etape Du Tour – Wow! Our very own Chris Lawler cycled from Megève to Morzine along the route of the 20th Stage of the Tour De France – that’s 122km folks! The atmosphere in Morzine was electric that day as 11,000 cyclists (spanning 62 different nationalities) took part in this huge event, arriving at the Palais Des Sports to cheering crowds, “Worn out but chuffed” according to Chris.
Lazy days at Lac Montriond – Absolutely stunning and probably best said in pictures….
Painting the Town Red and Le Tour De France – Imagine the whole of Morzine covered in red polka-dots! The mayor’s office took the lead in this, in preparation for the arrival of the 20th stage of the Tour and before long the whole of Morzine had joined in. Restaurants, bars, shops, chalets, transfer vans, and even one random cow, all transformed ready for the great arrival. The day of the tour itself was very wet but well worth the wait as the whole of Morzine turned out to witness one of the greatest sporting events in the world. More about that in our previous blog post here.
And finally, the famous Mont Blanc Rally – Earplugs at the ready! Hard left! Hard right! You get the idea. Classic cars, Lamborghinis, and everything in between, all tearing around Morzine to mark the end of the season. Quite the sight! And great fun!
Quite an eventful summer all in all we think you’ll agree! Beats a beach holiday any day.
If you like the sound of spending your summer in mountain paradise, come join us next year!
