On The Slopes
Morzine village has two major lifts running from the town centre.
The Pleney Telecabine takes you up to the Les Gets-Morzine area, with loads of tree lined runs, Les Gets-Morzine area is great for kids and families with easy access to the village centres of Les Gets and Morzine and a host of beginner friendly, well connected wide open blues and reds. There is also the Rosta and Nyon area offering a small but challenging selection of reds and blacks as well as the impressive black from the top of the Chamossiere. If you book children or beginner lessons this is the side of the valley you'll be skiing on.
The Super Morzine Telecabine takes you up towards Avoriaz and the remainder of the vast ski area. Several seasons of exploring still wouldn't be enough to cover the whole area properly but there are some highlights that are a must see.
Avoriaz itself, crazy art deco architecture, car free policy and ski runs and lifts through the middle of town. Also includes the Avoriaz snow park, kickers, rails and huge air bag to practice on!
Burton Stash freeride park, designed and built by the Burton snowboard company the stash is a freeride area with a heap of different lines running through it where nearly all the obstacles are formed from natural materials and the shape of the terrain.
Snowcross areas above Avoriaz, un-pisted and unspoilt by human interference but still patrolled and avalanche controlled this is the closest you can get to off-piste skiing without all the risks, on the right day the powder bowls and runs through here are as good as anything 2 hours of hiking into the backcountry will get you.
The ‘Coupe de Monde' piste above Avoriaz, the same course used in the women's downhill championships sits alongside some of the highest and steepest reds and blacks in the area, definitely worth getting fresh tracks on freshly groomed corduroy pistes.
The Portes du Soliel Circuit, get a taste of almost every resort in the area on a day long trip around the whole Portes du Soliel, you'll need the first lift and a good lunch to get you all the way round before last call on the slopes, a great day out.
