You might not want to ski every day, or be travelling with children or other members of your group who aren’t skiing at all. Alternatively you might fancy some evening entertainment away from the chalet. One of the great advantages of staying in Morzine is that because it’s a proper alpine town rather than a purpose built resort there are plenty of other activities to enjoy.

The Morzine-Avoriaz tourist office is always a good point of call if you’re not sure of opening times or the location of any of the activities you’ve seen advertised. You can’t miss the office it’s located prominently in the centre of the pedestrianised square right in the centre of town.

Morzine Swimming Pool

Morzine’s swimming pool complex is open summer and winter with the indoor pools only, open during the winter. There is a full length pool, smaller and warmer children’s pool as well as a shallow paddling pool for babies and toddlers. The pool complex has a reasonably priced cafe and restaurant next to the main pool serving a good variety of snacks, drinks and meals.

Within the pool complex there is a wellness spa centre that costs a little more than the pool entry but is still really good value for money with three dry heat saunas at varying temperatures and two Turkish style hammam steam rooms, perfect for easy those post skiing legs!

Aquariaz Swimming Pool Complex

Located in Avoriaz 1800 itself, Aquariaz is more of a fun pool than a swimming pool with a lazy river, water slide, children’s paddling pool and water cannons, rope swing and swimming pool and outdoor hot tub overlooking the Morzine valley. Entry is a little more expensive than the Morzine pool but it’s a good children’s activity and break from skiing if that’s what you’re looking for.

To get there you can either ski, possible but not advised! Alternatively drive or take one of the shuttle buses from the centre of Morzine out to the Prodain lift that takes you directly up into Avoriaz, from there you can either walk or take a horse drawn sleigh round to the pool itself. Driving to Avoriaz itself is more hassle than it’s worth and it’s good fun getting the telecabine.

Morzine Ice Skating Rinks

Morzine has two ice skating rinks. One indoor ice skating rink next to the swimming pool complex under the suspension bridge that also plays host to the Morzine-Avoriaz Les Gets ice hockey team and an outdoor ice skating rink in the town square next to the Tourist Office.

Both are open during the winter for public use and you can hire skates directly at the rink. Opening times for the indoor rink vary depending on whether there is a hockey match on and the outdoor rink is open most evenings but is subject to weather conditions i.e. to much snow on the rink!

Morzine Ice Hockey Matches

The Morzine ice rink in the ‘Palais Des Sports’ is home to HCMAG Hockey Club Morzine Avoriaz Les Gets. A successful club in one of Frances top divisions there are exhibition and league matches played regularly throughout the winter season. Combined with the Palais Des Sports bar an evening at the ice hockey is a great night out combined with one of Morzine’s fantastic restaurants.

Snow Scootering

Been watching your favourite ski or snowboard video and always fancied having a go on one of the snow scooters all the pros seem to have? Well heres you chance. Located on the road up to Avoriaz AvoScoot Morzine offer guided snow scooter rides from 17hr30 every day during the winter. If you take the Serrasaix lift returning from Avoriaz you’ll pass right over the scooters parked up during the day, once the pistes are closed the cross country skiing track is used as a race track for the snow mobiles. You will need to book a taxi or drive up to the Avoscoot hut on the Route d’Avoriaz 15mins before your sessions starts. See our staff outing snowmobiling with AvoScoot Morzine a couple of years ago.
