All that mountain air makes you hungry, and indulging in the rich local cuisine is one of the pleasures of a holiday in Morzine. Here it’s all about celebrating tradition and Savoyard ingredients, from local artisan cheese to locally reared beef, wild boar, venison, cured meats and saucisson – with fondue taking centre stage. While most of the Morzine restaurants draw heavily on tradition, you’ll also find some contemporary and world cuisine on the menu. For après ski, you can warm yourself in one of the town’s cosy bars with a vin chaud, a well-deserved beer or a refreshing cocktail and the entertainment goes on until late. There are lots of dining and drinking options in Morzine, but here are some of our favourites…

La Chaudanne

This is one of our firm favourites in Morzine. It offers delicious traditional dishes (try the tomato fondue!) along with more contemporary French cuisine. The interior channels clean, modern lines still in keeping with a traditional Savoyard style and helpful staff that will steer you round the extensive wine list.

+ good for groups and great wine selection!

Le Clin D’Oeil

Tucked away at the bottom of town, the unassuming exterior of this Morzine restaurant hides a gourmet delight inside. The owner is from the south west of France and specialises in the local delicacies from her home region including magret de canard, cassoulet and foie gras.

+ a change from the usual Savoyard menu, new terrace means more seating

– not easy to find, don’t be fooled by the modest exterior by a car park

Le Ferme de la Fruitiere

This new Morzine restaurant is run by the established cheese shop, L’Alpage, and connected to it via underground ageing and curing cellars. Come here in the evening for a roaring log fire, beautiful surroundings, and local cheese dishes, from raclette to variations of fondue, including a heavenly concoction, using chanterelle mushrooms.

Le Bec Jaune

This shabby chic microbrewery and kitchen is a refreshing sidestep from the standard Alpine restaurant and is the new kid on the block of Morzine bars. A delicious range of craft beers are brewed onsite, from American IPAs to malty English ales and traditional French and German styles. The pulled pork bun with slaw and pickles is a house special, but you could equally sit down to a cassoulet au saucisson or vegan superfood burger.

– if you’ve only got one night off from chalet catering to eat out, you won’t get the ‘traditional’ alpine experience here

Beanies Coffee Shop and Wine Bar

By day this is a great place to come for fresh coffee, leaf teas and hot chocolate, as well as milkshakes and smoothies. You can sip them while browsing their ski and backcountry kit in the adjoining shop. Hearty snacks are an offer including crêpes, cakes, soup and bacon sarnies. At night this Morzine bar regularly hosts live music, and is a favourite spot for an après cocktail or two – the Mojitos come highly recommended!

L’Etale

One of the busiest and best-known Morzine restaurants, and with good reason. You’ll find non-stop opening hours, a large and varied menu, reasonable prices and quick service. It’s good if you’re stopping in for a quick bite at lunch and don’t want to interrupt your skiing more than necessary. L’Etale serves all the classic Savoyard dishes as well as Asian flavours, pizza and some fantastic meat dishes.
