We came to the laid-back mountain resort of Morzine, France, in 2008 and found it the perfect base to enjoy superb skiing and the Alpine way of life. That’s why we made it our home! Nestled in a vast, tree-lined valley, this pretty village of wood and slate chalets hits the right balance of convenience, luxury and traditional Savoyard charm. Modern lift networks give you access to the full range of ski experiences, with an awesome 650km of runs, from nursery slopes and scenic cross-country trails to dramatic black runs to challenge the most experienced skier. And at the end of the day, your Mountain Spaces retreat will be ready with a cracking fire, delicious cuisine and the last word in comfort.

Just 90 minutes drive from Geneva airport, Morzine is served by lots of small, independent tour operators and chalets, so you won’t see busloads of guests being ferried in every Saturday by large operators. This means the whole town has an easygoing, independent je ne sais quoi that makes a stay here so unique. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to keep returning guests entertained with a good choice of après ski and evening entertainment, but it is small enough that even after a week you’ll feel like you are a part of the resort.

Portes du Soleil and Avoriaz

Morzine is the welcoming heart of the Portes du Soleil (Gates of the Sun) – a huge ski area that encompasses 12 villages across France and Switzerland. It vies for the title of largest ski area in Europe with the Three Valleys, but offers less expensive lift passes, dining and accommodation than in resorts such as Courchevel.

A stay at a Mountain Spaces chalet in Morzine also opens up the pleasures of spending time at the car-free resort of Avoriaz – perched dramatically on a cliff top 600 metres above the town. Horse-drawn sleighs ferry guests between, the quirky, 1960s, red cedar wood buildings of this resort that was voted the best in France by the Ski Club of Great Britain in 2015. As well as lots more après ski and dining options, Avoriaz is home to two music festivals, Transition and Snowboxx; Europe’s biggest snowpark, the Stash; and Aquariaz, an indoor water park bursting with tropical plants.

From family-friendly activities to extreme sports, Morzine, Avoriaz and the Portes du Soleil region really do have it all, set among the most incredible scenery. And we work hard to make sure your Mountain Spaces chalet is the haven of comfort and enjoyment that pulls it all together into the best ski holiday ever.
