We all know Alpine summers are amazing. The pure air, the breath-taking views, and the beautiful weather all combine to make the Alps the perfect summer location for those of us looking for a great alternative to yet another beach holiday.
And whether it’s a relaxing detox break, or an outdoor adventure holiday you’re after, the Portes Du Soleil really has something for everyone.
As we watch Morzine and the surrounding area evolve into a true all-year resort, it’s interesting to see each Summer offering a much broader range of events year-on-year. And with Music Festivals in Les Gets, Dance Festivals in Avoriaz, and Giant Float Parades, Kids Week and Food Lovers Week in Morzine, this summer is no exception!
With all this going on, it might be easy to forget why most people actually visit the Portes Du Soleil at this time of year – Hiking, cycling and MTB enthusiasts have been heading here in droves for years, taking advantage of the many trials and events the area holds each summer.
We’ll be covering the full range of events being held this summer, but first up, here’s our Top 5 video round up of the best Morzine and the surrounding area has lined up for all you outdoor activity seekers out there…

Reebok Spartan Race 2nd – 3rd July

Whether you’re running solo or with friends, as a team building exercise with colleagues – or simply spectating – this event promises to be a lot of fun, very entertaining and a great day out. We’re really looking forward to this one! You can register for the Morzine Spartan Race Here.
Where to start! This historic Cycling Event speaks for itself!
The Etape event is nothing short of immense in the amateur cycling world! Very well organised, extremely challenging, the idea is to allow amateur cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to race part of the official Tour De France route. Race competitively, or for personal enjoyment, it’s up to you! But be assured this is a no-messing-arround introduction into what the makes the pro’s “true heroes” of the sporting world.
For the 2016 Tour itself Morzine will have the pleasure of hosting the final competitive day of the Tour!
(Due to a time-honoured tradition and twist of fate, although the tour officially closes in Paris one day later, it is long accepted etiquette for the holder of the famed Yellow Jersey not to be challenged on the last day of the Tour. So this year Morzine is the final battleground for these amazing athletes to prove themselves!)
Be assured the town will pull out all stops to welcome this great show of superhuman strength and endurance. With the day’s cycling ending at the Tourist Office, the atmosphere in the square is going to be amazing! And if you’re lucky, you might even be here to see it, in person. Truly a bucket-list event. Quite simply – Be here!
It’s going to be a great summer, and we really hope you can come join us!
Luckily, we still have a few weeks available in our beautiful self-catered chalets in Morzine.
So we’ll be seeing you soon!
